Analysing and Evaluating Data

Projected KS4 Grades

I can compare and contrast scientific information and explain the advantages and disadvantages or similarities and differences between them

I can fully evaluate:

  • Experimental methods to explain how to improve the reliability of data collected
  • Using the following terms in the correct context: accuracy, precision, repeatability, reproducibility and reliability.

I can apply:

  •  The terms accuracy, precision, repeatability, reproducibility and objectivity in the correct context.

5

I can apply scientific content to unfamiliar contexts using scientific terminology where appropriate.

I can partially evaluate:

  • Experimental methods to explain how to improve the reliability of data collected
  • My results and identify any anomalous data

I can apply:

  • Logical thinking to analyse results and can explain whether or not my results support my hypothesis

8

4

I can explain scientific content using most relevant scientific terminology.

I can fully explain:

  • The hazards I my investigation including and explanation of the control measures I must follow.
  • My control variables including how to control my control variables to ensure I conduct a fair test.
  • I can calculate a mean independently

I can fully explain:

  • patterns and trends explaining why the pattern occurred using relevant and accurate scientific terminology

7

3

I can explain scientific content using some relevant scientific terminology.

I can identify and partially explain:

  • The hazards I my investigation including and explanation of the control measures I must follow.
  • My control variables including how to control my control variables to ensure I conduct a fair test.
  • I can calculate a mean with little direction

I can identify and partially explain:

  • I can explain whether or not data contains anomalous results.

6

2

I can explain scientific content however struggle to use scientific terminology correctly.

I can accurately describe:

  • My method i.e. how to complete an investigation
  • My independent, dependent and control variables in an investigation
  • The risks present in my  investigation

I can accurately describe:

  • I can describe patterns and trends and give a simple reason explaining why the pattern occurred.

5

1

I can describe scientific content using some scientific terminology correctly.

I can partially describe:

  • What an independent, dependent and control variables in an investigation
  • The risks present in my investigation

I can partially describe:

  • I can describe patterns and trends in data and use data to back up your answer.

4

WT+

I can describe scientific content using basic terminology

I can state keywords but may not know its context

I can recall basic scientific content within a lesson.

I can identify:

  • My independent and dependent variable.
  • Identify the units of measurements for my variables
  • All hazards that may be present in the investigation

I can state:

  • The basic lab safety rules I must follow every time to ensure I complete the practical safely.
  • Some hazards present in my investigation.

I can identify:

  • I can describe patterns and trends, linking the independent and dependant variables

I can state:

  • Simple patterns and trends in data.
  • What a conclusion is
