Heaton Manor celebrates outstanding A Level results

Students and staff of Heaton Manor School are celebrating today after its students accomplished another year of excellent A Level results.

Heaton Manor Sixth Form is one of the most successful in Newcastle; in 2015 it was in the top 25% of schools nationally for A Level results. This year Heaton Manor Sixth Form once again achieved an impressive pass rate and also a strong showing in the percentage of higher grades with 50% gaining a B grade or above.

There were also some outstanding performances from individual students. Mohammed Razzaq got 4 A* grades and is now going to Cambridge University to study Medicine. Calum Binmore got three A* grades and is going to Birmingham University to study Physics. Alice Green scored A* A* A and is going to Manchester and will study Biomedical sciences. Tegan Younger is off to read mechanical engineering at Leeds after doing brilliantly to achieve one A* grade and two A grades. Sameen Nassar will study medicine at Newcastle after gaining A* A A and Rueben Cole will go to East Anglia to do Business after achieving A* A A. Elinor Wilson can enjoy her gap year after getting a fabulous A* A* A and Alexa Ray will study Occupational Therapy at Northumbria after gaining her A* and two A grades.

This year has seen record numbers of applications to University from the school; more students will now go on to University than ever before. The majority got into their first choice university course, continuing the trend of recent years where Heaton Manor has a progression rate into University which is significantly above the national average.

Heaton Manor is also celebrating success with their vocational courses. The average grade for the BTEC programme is a Distinction* and this is especially pleasing as the full vocational programme is only in its third year. Star performers included Thomas Conway and Max Digman, who both achieved an incredible three Distinction * grades in their IT, Media and Business qualifications. "As an inclusive school, we strive to help every child in our care reach their full potential, wherever their area of interest may lie. We are incredibly proud of all of our students and are delighted to celebrate their achievements with them today and also send them all our best wishes as they move on to the next exciting stage in their lives." Said Andy Costello, Head of Sixth Form at Heaton Manor.

The students of Heaton Manor are now excitedly preparing for university. Many are staying at local universities but others are getting ready to move all over the UK, including Cambridge, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, East Anglia and Birmingham.

"Our results this year are again excellent and build on the on-going success we have enjoyed in previous years. We are delighted for the significant number of students who have really excelled this year and are extremely proud of their achievements," said Lynne Ackland, Headteacher.

"The results our students have collected today demonstrate a great deal of hard work over a number of years, and also reflect the personal courage and determination of each student to succeed" said Lynne.
