Cadets at the Festival of Remembrance

Heaton Manor cadets held a Remembrance Service in the school on Wednesday 9th December. The cadets read a roll call of all the fallen from the school and were led on and off the parade by piper SSgt Li.

Service 1 580

A Heaton Manor Tyneside Scottish cadet SSgt Charlie Gray was chosen to be the Army Cadet Standard Bearer at the Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall on Saturday 12th of November.

Three other cadets from Heaton Manor SSgt Minjie Li, SSgt Joel Mark and LBdr Batstone gave out programmes and acted as wheelchair ushers. They and Cdt Shashika Morakanda Gamage were part of a contingent of 28 cadets from Northumberland that took part in the parade at the Cenotaph on Sunday 13th November.

The evenings of drill paid off and the cadets took it all in their stride. It was a memorable and once in a lifetime experience and marked the end of the two year project TS100 which has seen us follow in the footsteps of the young men who signed up to the Tyneside Scottish Pals Battalion. The cadets have experienced signing up, life in the trenches and paid their respects at the Somme on the 1st July and now finally at the Cenotaph.

Whilst these cadets paraded in London the rest of the detachment were poppy collecting on Saturday and marched through Newcastle on Sunday.

Photos from the event have been posted in the gallery.
