Girls Athletics

On Friday January 15th two girls teams from Years 7 and 8 were at the Temple Park Centre in South Shields to represent Newcastle at the Tyne and Wear Indoor Athletics finals 2016.

The two teams qualified for this competition after coming 1st (Year 7 - Grace Chapman, Laura Kouadio, Briony Livermore, Leila Brkan, Jen Jasper, Sophie Stobbs) and 2nd (Year 8 - Maya Lant, Kirsty Marshall, Hannah Ord, Francesca Carrino Viereck, Katie McNaught, Ellen Matheson) in their city competitions.

The competition had individual, team relay and team obstacle races and in the field there was standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, shot putt and speed bounce. Each girl competed in at least 1 track and 1 field event with their times and distances covering to points and going towards the teams overall score.

All of the girls performed fantastically well with some brilliant individual wins in both the track and field events. However they came up against some outstanding teams. The year 8 girls finished in 7th position from 11 competing teams and the year 7 girls came agonizingly close to a medal, missing out on 3rd place by only 4 points.
