Heaton Manor celebrates outstanding A Level results

Students and staff of Heaton Manor School are celebrating today after its students accomplished another year of excellent A Level results.

Heaton Manor is again celebrating a bumper set of Sixth Form results. This year Heaton Manor, one of the most successful Sixth Forms in Newcastle, achieved an impressive pass rate and also a strong showing in the percentage of higher grades with over 50% gaining a B grade or above. For the third year in a row the school has performed well in the all-important ‘Value Added’ measure which shows the school making significantly above average progress at A level and BTEC.

One of the school’s star performers at A level is Mohammed Dagher. Mohammed has already had some success this year as the recipient of the Lord Glenamara Prize. This prestigious award is given in memory of former Deputy Prime Minister and North-East MP Ted Short, later Lord Glenamara. It was established to reward academic performance, citizenship and an interest in public service from young people in the North East. Mohammed is now even more delighted after achieving A*AA grades at A level, which has won him a place at King’s college London to study Dentistry.

"We are incredibly proud of all of our students; they have worked really hard and deserve their success. We are delighted to celebrate their achievements with them today and also send them all our best wishes as they move on to the next exciting stage in their lives. "

Other star performers include Zenab Razzak and John Ellis. Zenab achieved a fantastic set of results with two A* grades and two A grades. She is now going to Imperial College, London, to study Electronic and Electrical engineering. John got A*A*A grades and is now heading to Sheffield University to study Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering.

This year has seen record numbers of applications to University from the school; more students will now go on to University than ever before. The majority got into their first choice university course, continuing the trend of recent years where Heaton Manor has a progression rate into University which is significantly above the national average.

The students of Heaton Manor are now excitedly preparing for university. Many are staying at local universities but others are getting ready to move all over the UK, including Oxford, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham and the London Universities.
