Students appear on Radio Newcastle

Last year children from Heaton Manor attended a BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Conference in Newcastle to talk about life in a multi-cultural school.

Their preparation for this event led them to question things that they had seen in the media and through social networking that could lead to hate crime, racism, fear and discrimination.

They decided to do something positive to challenge this and to use the fact that Heaton Manor is a very diverse school to share information about the different cultures and faiths within our school.

The children decided to host a One World Party to so that their peers have the information and understanding to be able to question the stereotypes and misinformation and to be able to value each other as individuals.

The children talked to Alfie and Charlie at BBC Radio Newcastle about their plans, the interview is on iPlayer, it starts at around 1 hour 2 minutes.
