Year 10 Parent/carer and student events

Please find below, details of two important events coming up for you and your child just before and after the Easter break

Year 10 Parent/Carer/Student Information Evening:

‘How To Support Your Child In The Lead Up To Their Summer Mock Exams’

Wednesday 3rd April, 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

The Year 10 Summer mocks take place between Monday 17 and Friday 28 June. We will write to you before the Easter break and include a copy of your child’s personalised examination timetable with further details of these. In the meantime we would like to invite you to attend a support evening in school regarding advice and guidance on how to best support your child through their GCSE examinations.

The presentation will cover information on a suitable environment in which to study, revision and study techniques, how to manage examination stress, and how best to support your child throughout the remainder of Year 10 and into Year 11, prior to, and during their GCSE examinations.

We hope that the evening will be useful to both yourself and your child. We are planning that, in addition to formal and informal presentations, there will be parts of the evening that will be interactive for all of you. There will also be presentations from some of our previous Year 11 students.

There will be the opportunity for informal questions towards the end of the evening and refreshments will be provided.

We strongly encourage you to attend if you are able to, and also to bring your child with you to this evening. Please indicate whether or not you will be attending on the enclosed form.

Please note, that the information given at this evening will be generic study, revision and examination advice. Your child will be being given subject specific study support and revision in their individual lessons.

Year 10 Parent/Carer Consultation Session -Tuesday 23rd April 2019

We are holding our Year 10 Parent/Carer Consultation Session on Tuesday 23 April 2019 between 3:00pm and 7:00pm.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to speak to your child’s subject teachers, not only to find out more about their progress, but also to discuss any matters that may help us to support them. Wherever possible, we expect students to accompany Parents/Carers to this evening. For this session, you will be given a timed appointment with your child’s teachers. It is necessary, however, to limit the time to a maximum of eight appointments of five minutes. (You can, of course, see fewer than nine). This allows the evening to be more efficient and reduces the time waiting. If you require a longer appointment, it will be necessary for you to make arrangements with the subject teacher for a date and time convenient to you both.

Please indicate on the enclosed sheet the most convenient times for yourself, and select the teachers that you wish to see. The form should be returned to your child’s Form Tutor or Student Reception no later than Friday 15 March. Alternatively, you can post or email your request direct to Mrs Caroline Chirnside. (Email: CChirnside@heatonmanor.net) Please return the sheet even if you are unable to attend. We are unable to guarantee that any appointments will be made if the form is returned late.

Mr Merrifield (Director of Key Stage 4), Mr Mason (Head of Year), Mrs Hearons (Year Manager), representation from the Student Support Team, and myself, will also be available throughout the evening on a non-appointment basis.

Appointments will be posted on Friday 29 March in order for you to receive them prior to the Easter break. If you are unable to attend after the appointments have been made, please notify Mrs Caroline Chirnside as soon as possible.

If you or anyone accompanying you have access requirements, please let us know before you arrive, by telephoning or emailing Mrs Chirnside.

We look forward to seeing you and your child at both our Year 10 Parent/Carer/Student Information Evening and our Year 10 Parent/Carer Consultation Session.

Yours sincerely

Mr N Holmes

Director of Student Progress
