Year 10 Summer mocks - 17th June to 28th June

As we return from the Easter break, our Year 10 students will be approaching the final countdown to their Year 10 summer mock GCSE examinations and, where appropriate, real vocational examinations.

A copy of your child’s personal summer mock examination timetable (white sheet) has been posted out and where applicable, a vocational examination timetable (yellow sheet). Please note that these timetables may be subject to change.  There will be some rearrangement of examinations for those students embarking upon the Duke of Edinburgh expedition in June, and there will be a small number of changes for some students between the ‘Separate Sciences’ and the ‘Trilogy Sciences’.  If any of these changes apply to your child, we will be in contact with you after the Easter break.

General Summer Mock Examination Support

You will be aware that all of our Year 10 students have been given a full set of revision guides for all of the subjects that they are studying, to support them with their revision and examination preparation.  Further information is listed below of the on-going support that we are offering our Year 10 students to enable them to achieve the very best grades that they can in the summer mock and vocational examinations.  Many of your child’s teachers have used a website called SENECA revision (explained in the support booklet detailed below).

Summer Mock Examination Support in Personal Development Lessons

We have a number of lessons in PD devoted to supporting our students in their preparation for the mocks and vocational exams.  This includes ‘How to Start’, ‘General Revision’ and ‘Examination Tips’.  All of this information has also been placed on our FROG homework site for all of our Year 10 students.

Year 10 "How to Support Your Child in the Summer Mocks Evening"

This very well attended evening was held on Wednesday 3rd April.  We shared information on how best to support your child in the lead up to the mock examinations. A general revision support booklet was given to those who attended and is included in this mailshot for those who did not.  The overview PowerPoint is available to download here.

Year 10 Parent/Carer Consultation Session: Tuesday 23rd April, 3:00pm – 7:00pm

If you have made appointments for this session, it will give you an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress this year with their subject teachers.  They will also be able to give you specific advice to support you with your child’s final mock revision.

Easter and May Half-Term Revision

We have talked about the importance of using time over the Easter and May Half-Term break to continue with ongoing revision. The message to our Year 10 students has been:

You are very nearly at the end of another long and busy term.  Well done!

It is important that you take time over the Easter break to find the correct balance of work, rest and relaxation. Use your planned revision time wisely and productively.  Make sure that you have a revision timetable and stick to it!

Post May Half-Term Period 7 for Year 10 Students

There will be four Guided Study Period 7 sessions starting on Monday 10th June.  These will take place Monday to Thursday.  On these days, school will not finish for our Year 10 students until 3:30pm.

Year 10 Summer Mocks Results Day

This is scheduled to be on Friday 5th July. Please note that this date may be subject to change, and if so we will inform you of this.  This provides our students with a ‘real’ experience of GCSE results day.

Year 10 Full School Report

This will include your child’s Form Tutor report and subject next-step targets for Year 11.  We aim to publish this to parents/carers the week beginning Monday 8th July.

Our Year 10 students have been working very well this term in continuing with their GCSE and vocational studies, and they are responding very well to support and intervention from their teachers.  With continued and ongoing hard work, we are very optimistic for their success in their forthcoming summer mock and vocational examinations.

If you have any further queries, or require any more information about these details at this stage, please contact school by telephone: (0191) 2818486, or via email.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely

Mr Nigel Holmes
