Year 11 - End of Year Arrangements and Exam Guide

Letters have been sent out detailing end of year arrangements and important dates for our Year 11s, together with a guide to exam warm up sessions and further exam advice.

You can download the letter and the exam guide here.

The text of the letter is copied below.

Our Year 11 GCSE examinations have started; many of our students have already sat their MFL Speaking and Art examinations, and the examinations continue from Monday 13 May. Our Year 11 students have been working very well in preparing for their examinations - responding well to support and intervention from their teachers. We are optimistic for them in their forthcoming examinations.

You will find attached with the hard copy of this letter, a final copy of your child’s personal examination timetable and an overview of support throughout the examination period. Our Year 11 students will attend school full time until the bulk of the main examinations are complete. From lunchtime Tuesday 11 June (after Maths Paper 3) students attend school for examinations and exam warm ups only. Please note that there are compulsory Chemistry, Geography and Physics warm-ups on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week for specific students at specific times. For example, an exam warm up may be in place for S Band students or for L and N Band students. This information is detailed clearly within the examination overview.

Please note the other information and key dates detailed below.

Examination Contingency Day: Wednesday 26th June 2019

Students must also be available on the GCSE Examination Contingency day on Wednesday June 26th to sit an exam should the examination board have need to rearrange an examination due to an emergency unforeseen circumstance (such as an examination paper being leaked online). We will inform you in advance during the examination period should this need to take place.

Sixth Form Taster Sessions

The Sixth Form Taster sessions detailed within the examination overview are compulsory for those students wishing to continue their studies with us into the Sixth Form. There will be further details and a timetable of these issued to your child nearer the time.

School Lockers

If your child has a school locker, we ask that the key is returned to Student Reception by the date of the Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly and we will return the £10.00 deposit.

Return Of Revision Guides

We very much hope that your child has found the revision guides that we gave out earlier this year very useful as part of their revision process. If your child’s revision guides are in a reusable condition once the examinations are over, we would very much appreciate them being returned to us so that we can use them with other students in school. They can be returned to Student Reception at any time once the examinations are over your child can hand them in at the prom ticket, hoodies and yearbook collection event detailed below.

Prom Tickets, Hoodies and Year Book Collection: Monday 24 June 2019

1:15pm – 2:30pm

Year 11 students can collect their prom orders from the restaurant between 1:15pm and 2:30pm. All orders must be signed for by the student collecting them.

Year 11 Leavers’ Celebration Assembly: Tuesday 25 June 2019

12:45 pm – 2:30pm

Our Year 11 Leavers’ Celebration Assembly takes place on Tuesday 25 June. Students must be in complete full school uniform for this event, although leavers hoodies may be worn. Students need to meet outside Reception at the front of the school for 12:45pm. There will be the opportunity between 12:45pm and 1:15pm for polo shirt and ‘Leavers’ Book’ signing in the Main Hall, followed by our Leavers’ Assembly at 1:15pm. It will finish at 2:30pm. This assembly will consist of fun awards, academic awards, celebration of achievements and remembering all the excellent experiences the year group have shared over the past five years at Heaton Manor.

Year 11 Prom: Wednesday 26 June 2019

6:30pm arrival for 7:00pm – 11:00pm

Most of our Year 11 students are invited to, and have purchased a ticket for, our annual Year 11 Prom. This year it is taking place on Wednesday 26 June 2019 and is in The Great Hall of the Discovery Museum. The dress code is formal. Students must present their prom tickets on arrival in order to gain entry, although there will be staff on the doors with a list of all students attending.

We are very much looking forward to this event and as always it will be a night to remember for our Year 11 students, as they enjoy celebrating the fact that their GCSE exams are over and that it is also the end of Year 11. There will be a buffet, dancing, a formal photographer, photo booth and fun awards for everyone to enjoy.

Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start and the event finishes at 11:00pm. Our students will be dismissed from the Discovery Museum. Either they will be collected by parents/carers from outside the Discovery Museum or they can make their own way home. Please note that we ask that it is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure the safe return home of their children at the end of the evening. The Great Hall at the Discovery Museum operates a strictly ‘no smoking’ and ‘no vaping’ policy and only serves alcohol to adults over the age of 18. Students will not be permitted into our prom by the Discovery Museum stewards and staff if they appear to be under the influence of alcohol. In this instance, or if any student behaves in an antisocial or unacceptable manner during the prom, we will contact their parents/carers to ask them to come to the venue to collect their child and take them home. We have informed our Year 11 students of this in Assembly and we will do so again at our Leavers’ Assembly.

We look forward to a hugely enjoyable evening as we say a formal ‘farewell’ to our Year 11 students prior to the summer break, GCSE results day and Sixth Form.

GCSE Results Day: Thursday 22 August 2019

9:30am – 10:30am - Year 11 students collect their GCSE results (School Assembly Hall)

The Exams and Data Manager will be available for GCSE result queries from

9:30am – 12:00pm on Thursday 22 August 2019

If your child is unable to collect their results in person and wants someone else to do it on their behalf, they must put this request in writing before the end of term. The designated person will need to show some photo ID when they collect the results. Alternatively, we will post the results out to your home address. We look forward to seeing all of our Year 11 students again on this day and celebrating with them their excellent GCSE results.

Our Year 11 team, our Sixth Form team and one of our Connexions Advisors will be available to our Year 11 students on GCSE results day and on Friday 23 August, should they need any further information, advice or guidance regarding progression to Heaton Manor Sixth Form or their other chosen destination.

Our Year 11 students have demonstrated a good attitude towards their exam preparation. With continued effort in school and independent study at home after school, we are confident that they will do well. Your child’s teachers will continue to support them throughout and until their final exam in each subject. We would finally like to wish all of our Year 11 students ‘Good Luck’ and ‘Best Wishes’ prior to the final set of examinations starting on Monday.
