Year 12 Photography @ The Side

On Wednesday the 8th November, the Year 12 Photography A Level class went out to view several exhibitions at The Side Gallery on the Quayside, this was to support their current project about the street documentary genre.

We got to see the fantastic exhibition by Gordon Parks, A Choice of Weapons, which is a photographic record of Parks’ time as a Life magazine photographer documenting the Civil Rights Movement in America.

The second exhibition the students experienced was Syd Shelton’s work, Rock Against Racism, this covers the movement from 1976-80, documenting the gigs that were put on to combat racism in the UK at that time.

They then spoke to Paul Alexander Knox who talked about his work and the curating of both exhibitions.

The students were asking questions and engaged in the discussions around the themes of the images.
